What programs/apps could help you survive?
« on: August 13, 2011, 05:38:28 AM »
I'm currently building a Faraday cage for my laptop and smart phone along with a few other things. I was wondering what kind of ideas everyone could come up with in regards to computer programs and phone apps that might help us survive after the crap hits the fan. I have a couple of ideas that I will share later. I just wanted to see first if anyone shares the same. Thanks in advance for any input..

Items for your "Cage"...
12V (car) chargers.  They have micro processors/chips in them.
  12V to 120V Inverters.
Most LED flashlights have processors, too.

I'll watch for the postings about Apps.
Thanks

The charger and inverter are definitely a must. Great addition Mark!

One app I would suggest among many would be an "offline map". My cell phone has a fairly larger screen, and maps look great on it. I found an app that would allow me to download sections of the United States, so I wouldn't need internet to access it. It will be a great tool when traveling in an area you are not familiar with. Most of the maps will show you water sources also. If satellites are still working, you might even be able to pin point your location!!

Thanks,
Will

Offline map!
I'll give it a shot.
Thanks
I would also add a real map and compass for "just in case"

Gaia GPS. Great app. You can download all the maps you want from 1:200,000 JOG Air to 1:25,000 survey maps. 1:100000, 1:50,000.

Will, I use that Gaia everywhere I go, in conjunction with the google map (sat imagery). I'm very used to the topo maps from using them in the service.
